Europe funds your AI too: EDIH, the Digital Europe programme and the ERDF
People think first of French schemes; it is easy to forget that Europe has built its own network for supporting AI adoption — designed precisely for SMEs and the public sector.

EDIH: subsidised support close to home
The European Digital Innovation Hubs are consortia (universities, technical centres, development agencies) accredited and co-funded by the European Commission and the State. Their mission: helping SMEs and administrations adopt AI, high-performance computing and cybersecurity, through largely subsidised services — "test before invest", diagnostics, training, networking and signposting to funding.
Several hubs cover France, each with its own sector specialisms: ask the hub for your region (directory on the European Commission's site — European Digital Innovation Hubs Network).
The ERDF: digital investment co-funded by the regions
The European regional development fund, managed in France by the regional councils, co-funds 50 to 85% of certain digital projects — notably digital services to citizens run by local authorities (see our DETR/DSIL article) and SME transformation programmes, through regional calls for projects.
The Digital Europe programme
This is the envelope that funds the EDIH, AI infrastructure and advanced digital skills across the Union. Companies most often reach it indirectly, through the hubs and calls for projects.
Why it is strategic
